The Flying Squad

1940

Herbert Brenon
Director
Associated British Picture Corp.
Studio

Silly Edgar Wallace stuff about a murderous drug smuggling ring fronted by Jack Hawkins. Good performances by Hawkins, Smith and Radford, but Shaw makes a mediocre hero, and the rest is routine. An underwhelming swan song for Brenon, the first director nominated for an Oscar.

Previously filmed in 1929 and 1932, both versions of which appear to be lost.
