The Enterprise investigates a distress call from a ship lost some twenty years before, but the call turns out to be bait, as Captain Pike is abducted by aliens who can create powerful illusions with their minds. But for what purpose?

Rejected pilot for Star Trek, later re-edited and transformed into the series episode The Menagerie.

Not entirely successful first attempt, and perhaps justifiably rejected by NBC. The cast are a bit too serious and stiff, but there are enough intriguing elements (a female Number One, for example) to make one wonder what might have been.
