| After some wonderful screenplay work on Magnum Force and Silent Running, Cimino made an awesome directorial debut with Thunderbolt and Lightfoot. Followed by the magnificent Deer Hunter.
Then came Heaven's Gate, the film that sort of sunk United Artists and the director never really recovered from the backlash. I count myself lucky I have seen all Cimino's masterpieces on the big screen (including Heaven's Gate and the underrated Year of the Dragon) which serves them best. RIP. |
