After the Thin Man

1936

W. S. Van Dyke
Director
MGM
Studio

First and best sequel to The Thin Man finds Nick & Nora returning home to San Francisco after the events of the first film, where they once again get embroiled in a murder case, this time involving family members.

Just about on a par with the original, with a well developed mystery that has a genuinely surprising denouement. It's also a very, very funny film; Nick's dealings with his elderly relations are especially hilarious. The method with which the killer is foiled makes me wonder if Ian Fleming was a fan...

Followed by Another Thin Man in 1939.

I'm sure plenty of the unknowns are covered by the names in the cast, but until I know for sure, I'll leave them as unknowns. Too many cops and detectives!
