The Blues Brothers

1980

John Landis
Director

Incredibly addictive musical-comedy caper with Jake & Elwood Blues (a.k.a. 'The Blues Brothers') on a "Mission From God" to raise $5,000 to prevent the closure of their former children's home in Chicago. So they re-form their old band (albeit with some less-than-gentle persuasion) and put on some gigs across the state of Illinois to earn enough of the cash to meet their target.
Loaded with music and film-star cameos, too many to name here, but just check the credits for an idea of the quality on offer here.
Unbelievably the film flopped when first released, but has since gained a cult status. At the time of its release it was the most expensive stunts movie ever released (an estimated $33m of the costs of the making of it were on the stunts alone!!) ~ The Lord

John Landis' 80s revision of the musical just keeps getting better with age. Endlessly quotable, terrific perfomances from a whole pile of music biz legends, and a phenomenal car chase. 25 years anniversary edition. Highly recommended. ~ The Sloth

Followed by Blues Brothers 2000 (1998).
