Based on a great novel by Robin Cook and directed by another great novelist, Michael Crichton and featuring a smart and empowered heroine, with Michael Douglas playing a mostly ineffectual second banana, and brief cameos from future stars Tom Selleck and Ed Harris.

Only gripe is that the villain is obvious merely from the casting. They should have put someone 'nice' in that role, a Tom Bosley or Ed Flanders. Cast member X even playing nice still implies he up to no good.

I think Coma did for surgery what Jaws did for swimming in the ocean.
