Confusing action sci-fi with Arnie fantasising about taking a trip to Mars. The movie turned actress Sharon Stone from relative obscurity into a noticeable star-in-the-making. The 2-disc DVD Special Edition boasts some great extras, including a commentary track from Arnie. The Blu-Ray is a massive disappointment: with the distributors (Optimum Releasing) extorting more money out of us for a sub-standard edition with absolutely NO extras whatsoever. ~ The Lord. Average Joe (Schwarzenegger, right?) finds out he is a secret agent involved in nefarious schemes on planet Mars. Everything a good Arnold picture should be, gratuitously violent, ridiculous and strangely compelling. Paul Verhoeven directs with his usual black sense of humour. Spoilt by going too far occasionally. Loaded special edition. ~ The Sloth. |
