Slade in Flame

1975

The trials and tribulations of a rock band as it tries to make the big time.

Critic Andrew Sarris once described A Hard Day's Night as "The Citizen Kane of jukebox musicals". I might describe Slade in Flame as the Get Carter of jukebox musicals.

The band's working class background is nicely done and the assortment of low life's in the business carry an air of authenticity, the only problem really are Slade themselves who seem too frothy a band to be in such a dark movie.

All-in-all a surprisingly good film although it wll help if you have a fondness for Slade.
