A certain ill-fated cruise liner comes a cropper in icy waters.
Fascinating propagandist piece that still manages to include many of the bits of business of later Titanic opus - Blue Diamonds and thieves locked below decks during the disaster for example. Certainly British bungling is highlighted, the good German officer (?) clearly knows best, but the films main vitriol is reserved for the conniving upper classes and J. Bruce Ismay in particular.
Not what this reviewer was expecting and actually not that bad.
Director Herbert Selpin was arrested during the making of the film and died while in custody of the Gestapo.
