Case of mistaken identity finds racetrack tout Shiner as schoolmaster of unruly boys. Almost scene for scene remake of Good Morning, Boys! is bolstered by Shiner's performance, but suffers the same problems of the original. The main problem is that the proto Teddy Boys' antics are completely unsympathetic characters, and the film increases theirobnoxious behavior to the point where it becomes unbearable. This is further compounded by the 'boys' all being played by twenty-something actors, so when they are shown doing things like hitting on women it looks more like potential rape than harmless boys' fun. And as with the original, the sudden shift into hero mode in the last reel does not make sense. Why would these cretins suddenly care about a crime, especially in France? A shame, as there are scattered moments of amusement, and the ending is amusing. Thanks once again to Philly for his input! -Dave Wright |
