No sooner do the Meldrews return home from a holiday, Victor is back to his usual self, moaning at anything and everything from kids using his house as a cricket pitch to streetlamps which have fallen through his bedroom window. He is so wrapped up in himself that he fails to notice Margaret is becoming attracted to a middle-aged man they met whilst away. But she returns home one evening after a date with him Victor isn't alone....
