Unecessary remake of the Carpenter classic tries hard and has plenty of gore, but eschews the minimalism of the original to give everyone more motivation and back story which seems a mistake. Were it not a remake I'd probably be happier about it. Certain actors appear only in the Theatrical version, others in the DVD Unrated edition.
